...so, I've been waiting with bated breath: is it just the same DVDs packaged together? Or did anything get restored (particularly with the music issues)?

A friend of mine who I think may still post on here (William) gave me The Last Shout on DVD and White Box recorded on DVD, as White Box wasn't released on DVD in the UK on region 2.

I got Series 5 for Christmas in 2005 and I bought Gay in 2006 and in the same year, the purple boxset which has series 1, 2, 3 and 4.

The purple boxset contains 4 cardboard/plastic cases. The first 3 cases hold one disc for each series, and the 4th case holds 2 discs for series 4.

The second disc has the one-off comedy Mirrorball (written by starring Jennifer Saunders as well as other Ab Fab cast members) and interviews and outtakes from Ab Fab series 4.

Series 1, 2, 3, Gay and The Last Shout have outtakes, and Gay and Series 4 have audio commentaries with Jennifer Saunders and Jon Plowman. All the DVDs now, come to think of it, have pics to look at as an extra feature.

I thought I'd give you guys bit more of a description of the DVDs of Ab Fab in the UK.

Got Absolutely Everything recently and have really enjoyed listening to commentaries for season 4. There is however no commentary for Gay. So apparently you have to get the UK box set for this. Or can you get it separately? Appreciate any input on this. I thought all commentaries would be on the Ab everything box set...

Edit: Oh just realized that it had already been said that you could get Gay separately...

HMV and play.com both have "Gay" for only £6.99 currently, but neither site lists a commentary under the special features.

It's such a shame the "Absolutely Everything" box isn't definitive; I'm still holding back on replacing my series 1-4 videos in the desperate hope that a complete Region 2 boxset becomes available... but it's looking about as likely as... well, as a Vivienne Vyle UK release!!

Thanks for the info. But how to know if you get the commentary, then? I'm a sucker for these kinds of things.

And funny about Vivienne Vyle! Has anyone ordered it from Holland?

So wait, this is just the UK sets? So they keep Wheel's On Fire on ALL shows? Is the Chicago parody and the Like A Prayer quoting intact?
What about the US Ab Ev?

Sorry for replying so late to this thread, but I have only just seen this one after such a long time.

The UK Ab Fab DVD episodes all have the song "Wheels On Fire" added to the opening titles and end credits and the Chicago spoof/parody is in the episode "Birthin' " episode 5, series 5 (which I went to see with some of the other forum members and it was a bloomin' marvellous experience )

The scene from "Death", (episode 2, series 2) with Edina quoting lyrics from Madonna's "Like A Prayer" as well as Edina singing a bit of the song before Patsy buzzes the intercom, (during Saffy and Eddie talking about life and death in general) is not on our VHS videos or DVDs in the UK.

I don't know about the Ab Fab DVDs and their music copyright situation in the US, I'm afraid. I hope that helps.

I still need to get this boxset! I've been eyeing it for years but have held off because I own literally all the other Ab Fab releases. Also because I've wondered what was actually in the boxset here in Australia. I think I'll have to pick it up just to have the new purple boxset hehe.

Would love to have Mirrorball and Season 4 outtakes on DVD!

It's now down for a 8-11-10 release in the UK.

I have never found out what the reason is for Episode 1 being edited on the existing purple box set. The bit where Patsy and Eddie talk in the car is a lot longer on the broadcast version still shown by GOLD
